Angry Banning Fiction Rant
written on 2002-09-19, @ 2:50 p.m..

Today I read this poem to my Creative Writing class, it was What They Learn In School". The reaction I got was pretty interesting. I just read it because I found it really funny, I mean if you get it, it's hilarious. We then started talking about things that are banned. Laura found this website with the 100 most banned/controversial books from 1995 to 2002 and she's read 27 of them. I probably have read a good many of them too. She told us that Harry

Potter was one of those banned/controversial books. Which I think is a shame because I love that series. Many religous groups burn because it talks about "witchcraft". It's fiction for crying out loud!!! FICTION IS NOT REAL! They've had it banned from schools and junk. Okay maybe it's just me, but the responisble parent would explain to their kid that it is fiction and that fiction isn't real. No one can really play quidditch and no can really fly on brooms. Parents these days are getting too comfortable with having others regulate what's taught to their kids. If you're a parent, be responsible! If you just let your kid sit infront of the TV watching all these fiction and make-believe without telling them that it is fiction, don't surprised if they don't know what's real and what isn't. It's the parents responsiblility to show/tell their kids what's real and what isn't-it's not the government's job. If you had the mind to bring them into this world, then you should have the mind to teach them something.
