Underestimate and Swim
written on 2004-06-04, @ 3:15 p.m..

In honor of the new month I've decided that I should write something. I really should be reading chapter two for my chem class but I'm procrastinating. I should really stop this. I should get some self-discipline.

Today is June 4th and PoA comes out today!!! *jumps up and down* I'm so excited. I'm going to see it later tonight and will probably post my review here; I'm going to post it on my lj because I can hide spoilers behind a cut. I can't promise that it will be spoiler-free so I'll probably end up making the text the same color as the background so then no one can yell at me.

I'm still unemployed at the moment. I think that I'll give the two places that were hiring until next week and then I'm off on the job hunt....once again. This finding a summer job thing is much harder than people make it out to be. ^^;;

Okay now that we're all caught up time to talk about what I really want to talk about. I was struck by something that J.K. Rowling said during her biography on A&E in response to all those people who say that she's turning all the youngsters to the occult. She said that people underestimate kids too much and you know, she's right. We do tend to underestimate kids. People think that if kids read fantasy books then they'll believe everything in them. Kids aren't stupid you know, they do realize that there's such a thing as pretend. Why do you think that they play pretend all the time?

Kids are smarter than adults give them credit. Yes, maybe they don't have college degrees or are sophisticated in the ways of the world, even though kids know more than most adults will ever give them credit for. They know that there is such a thing as pretend, fear, hate, love, war, kindness and they know or will come to realize in time that life is not always fair. They also know or will come to know that things happen in life that you have no control over and that you'll just have to live it that somehow. It always amazes me how kids will sometimes say the wisest things, things that they should not be able to figure out because only people endowed with wisdom say such things. Perhaps it is because they are so young and their eyes aren’t clouded by all the things that cloud our own that gives them the ability to say such wise things, despite their age. Who knows.
